The SSUP - a group of very enthusiastic ukulele players who have always loved music but have recently discovered how much more exciting it is to play the music they love on the ukulele. Their selections reflect their varying interests from ragtime, big band, country, bluegrass, gospel, and some of those songs that make us laugh at the foibles of life. The players have been together since 2003
under the direction of 2008
Schedule: In the Picking Class,
we will work on improving our sight reading skills
by playing exercises
with more complex rhythm
patterns and work on counting them out
correctly. We will polish up the current
repetoire and add some new
pieces. Please
bring your "Encore" Book. In the SSUP Class, we
will spend the first hour developing skills and
techniques and the second
hour on specific pieces of
music. We will expand sight reading
and
ear training skills with the voice. With a little work on
memorization and a little more work on
strumming techniques, we
should start to have a few
people playing uke solos. After the first
few
weeks, we will take a little time each week to work through 'Ukulele
in the Classroom" by Doane and Hill. Most of
you already know how to
play the material in the
first book; but it makes an excellent review of
terms and techniques.
